Mayor of Beagleville finds a new home

Mayor of Beagleville finds new home – oldest beagle taken in first to be adopted
Cooper, a senior beagle, first to be adopted – others coming up for adoption in the next week

The first of the Westmoreland 61 – the beagles that were seized as part of a cruelty investigation in the Town of Westmoreland – has been adopted. Cooper, an 8 year old beagle and unofficial Mayor of Beagleville, will now be living with a couple in Onondaga County.

The Westmoreland 61 were seized from a hoarding house in Oneida County where they were kept inside, not let out and were in extremely unsanitary conditions. The dogs, mainly Beagles and Beagle/Chihuahua mixes, range in age from a few days old to at least eight.

“While it was a sad situation having to seize these dogs, the bright side is that they are all doing well, Cooper has found a new home and the rest of beagles will be coming up for adoption as soon as they are spayed and neutered,” said Troy Waffner, CEO of CNYSPCA.

CNYSPCA has seen an outpouring from the community with monetary donations and, just as importantly, donations of bleach, laundry detergent, blankets, towels and toys. These donations can continue to be dropped off at 5878 East Molloy Road, Syracuse.

“The outpouring has been almost overwhelming,” Waffner commented. “With the help from the community these dogs all have very bright futures and will be living their lives going forward.”
