Meet the CNY SPCA Board of Directors

Marcie Marshall, Board President, is a veterinary management professional with more than 35 years of experience supporting animal care organizations across Central New York. After 22 years at Veterinary Medical Center, she retired in January 2026 and continues her commitment to animal welfare through board service and community involvement. Marcie has managed four veterinary hospitals of varying sizes, overseeing operations that included human resources, finance, facilities, risk management, and systems development. She has extensive experience establishing efficient, transparent practices that strengthen organizational stability and quality of care. Her background includes participation in high-volume Trap-Neuter-Return programs and vaccine clinics in underserved communities. Marcie has also provided consulting services to veterinary practices, helping struggling organizations improve operations and governance. She has worked closely with attorneys, accountants, and regulatory agencies on contracts, audits, compliance, and expansion initiatives. Throughout her career, she has built strong professional partnerships and remains dedicated to supporting the animals, staff, and mission of the CNY SPCA.

Nicole Heath, Secretary, is a lifelong Central New York resident, educator, and community advocate with a strong background in animal welfare and nonprofit leadership. She is a high school teacher and holds bachelor’s degrees in accounting and psychology and a master’s degree in education. Nicole co-founded Cuse Pit Crew to advocate for dogs facing breed-based discrimination, providing humane education, free training, and adoption assistance. Her early work as a kennel attendant and in fostering helped spark the creation of a shelter’s first foster program, leading to increased live outcomes for at-risk animals. She is a founder and facilitator of the CNY Animal Cruelty Task Force, coordinating collaboration among shelters, law enforcement, prosecutors, and government agencies. Nicole has extensive experience in nonprofit finance and governance, serving as Treasurer of the Central Square Teachers’ Association since 2010. She also served for over 15 years as a volunteer with the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Central New York, including as Co-Chair of its largest internal fundraiser. Nicole brings a strategic, collaborative approach to advocacy and is committed to strengthening the mission and long-term impact of the CNY SPCA.

Edward (Eddie) Zaremba, Treasurer is a community-focused leader with a deep commitment to strengthening the connection between people and animals. He brings more than a decade of nonprofit and volunteer leadership experience, including long-term service with CNY Adaptive Sports where he served as president, treasurer and other positions during periods of stability and a total reset. He has a Bachelor’s Degree from the Whitman School of Management in Entrepreneurship, a Master’s degree in Cultural Foundations of Education, and a graduate certificate in Conflict and Collaboration. After working in the non-profit space, he earned a Juris Doctorate from the Syracuse University College of Law, where he served as a Pro Bono Fellow. Eddie currently serves the community in his role as a housing rights attorney for a local public-interest legal aid organization, and has experience in business planning, social venture consulting, organizational leadership, and capacity-building. His background includes both private and public fundraising, including grant-writing and administration at the local, state, and federal levels. Known for collaborative leadership, advocacy, accountability, and service-driven values, he is committed to strengthening community institutions and is excited to bring his passion and experience to supporting the CNY SPCA. A New Hampshire native, Eddie shares his home with his rescue pup, and his two rescue cats share their home with him.

Diane Fitzpatrick is a retired legal professional with a longstanding commitment to public service and community advocacy in Central New York. Throughout her career, she worked with organizations including Vera House and Catholic Charities, supporting individuals and families in need. Diane brings a thoughtful, solutions-oriented approach shaped by her legal training and experience on the bench. In retirement, she has sought meaningful ways to improve the welfare of animals in the region’s shelters. Learning of community concerns surrounding governance at the CNY SPCA sharpened her focus and commitment to helping the organization move forward. Known for her rational, fair-minded perspective, Diane values collaboration and careful decision-making. She is dedicated to strengthening oversight, accountability, and compassionate care for animals in need through her service on the CNY SPCA Board of Directors.

Jane Senke is a long-time volunteer, advocate, and supporter of the Central New York SPCA with more than eight years of hands-on service to the organization. During her time as a volunteer, she has served as a dog mentor, assisted with Petfinder listings, and supported fundraising and community outreach events. Jane has also adopted and fostered animals through the shelter, demonstrating a deep, personal commitment to its mission. Professionally, she brings 18 years of experience in banking, with a background in operations management, accounting, lending, and staff supervision. For the past 17 years, she has helped run her family business, overseeing employee scheduling, financial management, inventory, sales, and advertising. Jane’s experience provides strong skills in financial oversight, operations, and people management. She is known for her collaborative approach and belief in open, honest communication as the foundation of a healthy organization. Jane is dedicated to helping rebuild, strengthen, and advance the CNY SPCA for the animals and community it serves.

Gregg Ordon is a seasoned IT professional with more than 23 years of experience, including extensive work supporting veterinary and animal-focused organizations. He is motivated to serve on the Central New York SPCA Board of Directors by a strong belief in the organization’s mission and a commitment to ensuring that animal welfare remains the top priority in every decision. His professional background includes work with organizations such as VMCCNY, Stack Veterinary, and Animal Dental Specialists, where he developed a deep understanding of both technical systems and operational needs within veterinary environments. He brings a practical, solutions-oriented perspective, with expertise in strengthening IT infrastructure, improving systems, and creating more efficient operational workflows. Known for his collaborative approach, he listens carefully to challenges, values input from others and is willing to seek guidance to ensure the best outcomes. His goal is to help build stable, secure, and sustainable systems that allow the organization to function effectively while focusing on animal care and community service. In addition to his professional experience, he is actively involved in the community, serving as Co-Chair of the Red Shoe Society for the Ronald McDonald House of Central New York and as a Lead Mission Photographer for Honor Flight Syracuse. He believes that with strong leadership, clear communication, and organizational transparency, the CNY SPCA can achieve meaningful growth and community trust. Committed to supporting both animals and the people who care for them, he aims to contribute to the organization’s long-term success and positive impact.

Dr. Maureen Luschini VMD, DACVECC is a board-certified veterinary emergency and critical care specialist with extensive experience in both clinical medicine and organizational leadership. She has built her career around providing high-level care for critically ill animals while maintaining a deep commitment to advancing animal welfare. As a former owner of a 24-hour veterinary emergency and specialty hospital, she developed strong expertise in hospital operations, team leadership, and clinical decision-making under pressure. Dr. Luschini currently contributes to veterinary education as a visiting lecturer at Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine. She also serves on Cornell’s Course Design Committee, helping shape modern, problem-based veterinary curricula. Her professional background includes collaboration with law enforcement, providing medical care and documentation in animal cruelty and neglect cases. In addition to her clinical and academic work, she has been actively involved in community initiatives, including organizing school fundraising efforts. Dr. Luschini is passionate about strengthening the human–animal bond and improving access to veterinary care within communities. She brings a strategic mindset that balances compassionate care with efficient, sustainable operations. Through her leadership, clinical expertise, and dedication to education, she continues to make a meaningful impact on animal welfare and the veterinary profession.

Audrey Gibbs has built a distinguished career in nonprofit leadership, development, and marketing spanning nearly four decades. She began her career in 1987 with the United Way of Jefferson County, where she quickly expanded the organization’s visibility through creative marketing, public speaking, and community engagement—helping raise $500,000 within her first year. In 1989, she returned to Syracuse to join the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra as Volunteer Coordinator and was later promoted to Director of Annual Giving and ultimately Director of Development, helping close a successful $10 million campaign. She later joined the United Way of Central New York as Director of Major and Planned Giving, where she helped grow the organization’s major giving society beyond $1 million. At Syracuse Home, Audrey led the creation and growth of the organization’s marketing and development initiatives, including promoting McHarrie Towne, its independent retirement community. Over her 29-year tenure, she helped lead a successful capital campaign that funded a new 80-bed long-term care wing, modern assisted living apartments, a specialized dementia unit, and enhanced short-term rehabilitation facilities. Audrey retired in December 2025 after nearly three decades of impactful service and begin volunteering at the CNY SPCA.  She is thrilled to be able to use her expertise to strengthen donor relations at the shelter.  An avid reader, gardener, volunteer, and animal lover, Audrey enjoys time with her husband, their two adult children, and their Labrador Retrievers. Audrey’s guiding philosophy is simple: she believes philanthropy can change everything.

Joe Szlosek is a seasoned business leader with a strong desire to give back to the community through board service. He is particularly drawn to the CNY SPCA because of its commitment to animal welfare and its important role in the community. He began his career as a Certified Public Accountant before transitioning into the recruiting industry. In 2008, he founded his own company, which has grown into one of the largest firms in Upstate New York. Through this experience, he has developed strong expertise in financial management, operational strategy, and organizational growth. His financial acumen remains a key strength, providing valuable insight into budgeting, oversight, and long-term planning. His firm also includes a veterinary recruiting division that places licensed veterinarians across the United States, giving him unique exposure to the veterinary field and its workforce challenges. He previously served as President of Baldwinsville Sting Basketball, a nonprofit organization supporting 400 to 500 youth athletes, where he gained valuable experience in leadership, governance, and community engagement. Joe brings a practical, strategic mindset and a proven track record of building and leading successful organizations. Committed to supporting both animals and the community, he is well positioned to contribute to the CNY SPCA’s continued growth, sustainability, and mission-driven impact. He looks forward to dedicating meaningful time and energy to an organization whose mission aligns closely with his personal values.
